A brainchild of eight founding members with a passion for literature; Essense Bookclub (Now Essense Boston Bookclub) was founded in October of 2004. Our bookclub incorporates our love of reading, life-long friendships, food, and fun, into what we consider a monthly "mini hiatus" from our everyday lives. We are professional women who are also students, wives, and mothers who gather once a month taking turns choosing a book, poem, movie, or documentary for lively discussions. The vast collection of literary works chosen have allowed us to open doors that we never knew existed by challenging us to watch or read something that we would have not normally chosen personally. As a result of this exposure we have grown as individuals, veils have been lifted, truths have been revealed and myths erased that in the past may have hindered us.
The Essense Boston Bookclub is a movement that strives to promote literacy for its members and community. We encourage writers to continue to live their dreams by giving them a positive forum, while keeping them honest and holding them responsible for their work and messages. We are dedicated to assisting up and coming authors in gaining additional exposure and support for their literary works. Not only have we had the privilege of authors attending and participating in our meetings/discussion but we review their books as well. Essense Boston Bookclub has made a strong commitment to community service and challenging ourselves and others to enrich the community with knowledge and dedication.
