E. Lynn Harris was born on June 20, 1955, in Flint Michigan, but raised in Little Rock Arkansas alongside his three sisters. An Honors Graduate of Journalism , of the University of Arkansas at Lafayette, E. Lynn Harris wore many hats, the yearbook editor, a cheerleader, and the president of his fraternity.

After 13 years of selling computers for many companies, such as IBM, Hewlett-Packard, and AT&T, he quit his job to follow his dream of writing. The road was wasn't uneventful. After writing his first Novel Invisible Life he had problems finding a reputable publisher. Believing in his talent, E. Lynn Harris self published his books, selling them out of the trunk of his car, in black bookstores, and salons. Three years later, he was "discovered" by a publisher, Anchor Books, officially staring his career.
