My name is Shayla Brown, and I am the newest member of The Essense Boston Book Club. I was born and raised in Boston, MA, and have spent a portion of my adulthood living and flourishing in Atlanta. I joined Essense because I was attracted to the idea of being part of a group that collectively embraces one piece of literary work, and yields a variety of views… In life, other than being a part of Essense, my interests include spending time with my family and friends, traveling, cooking, playing the piano, singing, photography and shopping!

A good piece, whether book, poem or other creative-works outlet, can literally take me out of my element and into a zone like no other… My intentions of incessantly stimulating my mind and broadening my horizons in the literary world are truly satisfied as a member of Essense! Hillary

Education: Master's Degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Massachusetts at Lowell.

Career: Currently, I am employed as a Supervisor for a unit of Mental Health Social Workers.

My interests outside of my 9-5 pretty much include reading, watching movies, playing softball, shoe shopping (of course), decorating and last but not least, photography/scrap-booking.

I am one of the founding members of The Essense Book Club. For me, Essense is an outlet to continuously broaden my knowledge base. I find that with each day, I'm given the opportunity to discover something new. So who better to learn from than the people around me? Books have always been a part of my life, whether it is my method of escape during tough times...or just a time-filler. Essense has provided me with the opportunity to read books I wouldn't have chosen, hence giving me another view of the world. Our members are dedicated readers and it's always nice to be able to see a book from a different angle.

Stacey Wilson, Essense member and Tech Junkie. "Great books, movies, and design are my passions" I displayed an early flair for reading; by reading books with words I could barely pronounce at the tender age of 7. It's that flair and passion that lead me to join Essense book club and becoming a part of a growing phenomenon. My love for design and technology took me to The New England Institute of Art, completing a degree in Interactive Media Design.

As a resident of Boston, Massachusetts, working for a leading New Media Company and perfecting my natural given talents in the Kitchen, it is safe to say. I shall always be inspired by the power of words.

Hi everyone, my name is Marie Swain-Price. I was born in Brooklyn, NY and raised in Boston, Ma. I'm a full-time Registered Nurse with a Bachelors of Science in Nursing from Curry College in Milton, Ma. I'm also a wife and mother of four beautiful children. I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, reading a good book and listening to music. I've been apart of Essense Book Club for 1 1/2 years now. I love getting together and listening to the different point of views about a book or debating over a contrevercial topic in a book we've read. It's so much fun!

Kasey Cameron is the President and Co. Founder of the Essense Book Club,

Created to use our love of reading to help boost the literacy rate amongst African Americans. A veteran of the United States Coast Guard, she holds an Associates Degree in Computer Information Systems and a Bachelors Degree in Legal Education.

Kasey is an avid reader and enjoys topics ranging from Romance to thrillers.
